Back to School Nights are coming soon! We hope to see you there!
Happy eve of the first day of school GWDES Family,
Ready or not, tomorrow, August 21, 2024 is the first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year. Each year brings new energy, learning, and fun and I am so excited to see this place bubbling with excitement and beaming with smiles. It’s been far to quiet around here without our elementary wildcats.
I know you will be inundated with backpacks full of back-to-school papers, so I’ll keep this brief. Here are a few bulleted items I thought would be helpful for the first day.
• Among other new students, we are welcoming 47 new Kindergartners. Bus pick-up and drop off times may change a bit and will certainly become more steady as the weeks progress. Please be patient if the driver is late the first couple weeks as all of this is ironed out.
• If you are picking up on the first day, please bring your ID and check in with the team member outside when you arrive. We will check ID’s as we get to know you and the people designated to pick up your child.
• Breakfast is FREE! Your child is welcome to enter and head to the cafeteria if they would like a meal.
• We have a new friendly face in the art room. Her name is Riley Bennett but we call her Miss “B”. I’ll spend more time introducing our new team members very soon.
• The first day is a busy one and your child may be extra tired when they get home the first few days.
Our team is ready and can’t wait to see you tomorrow!
Enjoy your Day,
Michele Comp

Greenwood Middle/High School's 2024 yearbook, "New Horizons," was distributed this week. The book's cover is extra special as it was painted by senior Mason Preston, who consulted with the yearbook staff on the cover. He is pictured holding his original watercolor painting beside editor-in-chief Lia Zurenko, who is holding the finished product.
The staff, including Lia Zurenko (editor-in-chief), Hannah Shiffer and Madison Kurylo (co-editors), Sophia Jezewski, Skyler McMillen, Jada Poticher, Kacy Fegley, Caroline Hartley, and Danica Zurenko, diligently worked on the book, which was nationally recognized. For the seventh year, it received the Josten's Yearbook Program of Excellence Gold-Level award.
