Our 8th grade English classes studied folklore and created their own stories to share with Mrs. Bailey's elementary students. They wrote tall tales, fairy tales, legends, and myths and designed their own storybooks. They did a fantastic job! Thanks to Mrs. Nastasi, Miss Amey, and Mrs. Freed for your hard work and dedication!

First grade had another hands on garden lesson with Miss Mallory. This time, we focused on bringing our STEELS standards to life. Did you know plants utilize their external structures to help them survive? The first grade students created an experiment to test this theory! They planted tomato seeds in one garden bed, one greenhouse that will be in the shade and one greenhouse in the sun. As growing begins, they will observe the differences in plant structure and identify what plant has the most successful growing pattern and why!

Belco Credit Union graciously sponsored a Reality Fair for students from Greenwood and Newport. Greenwood's Personal Finance students selected a likely career path and then Belco generated an average monthly salary based on that path. Taxes, food, housing, clothing, loans, and other optional expenses were calculated as well as opportunities to save money and pay down debt. Each student worked through their own individualized simulation with the help of amazing community volunteers. Thank you to everyone who made this worthwhile event possible for our students.

First grade worked with our garden specialist, Mallory, to explore what it means to compost. We decided what we could and couldn't compost. Then, we looked at material that was put into our garden compost to see if it has changed into soil. After, we filled our classroom compost bins with material to watch decompose.

Last week, when the weather was beautiful, our elementary students took full advantage of it during a "School-Wide Get Outside” event! ☀️

All students in grades K–5 spent time outdoors enjoying the fresh air. Some students chose to play and be active, while others continued their learning in an outdoor setting. It was a wonderful opportunity to mix fun with education and make the most of the sunshine!

Of course, this week reminded us that it is still early spring—bringing back the cold, gray, and unpredictable weather 🌧️❄️—but we’re so glad we made the most of those warm, sunny moments while we had them! We had a great time and look forward to more days like that ahead!

Eight Greenwood students took a tour of Secco Electric in Camp Hill. Bill McSherry, Heather Gates, and their team graciously took time out of their day to give our students some hands on demonstrations in bending conduit and showed us their shop and continuing education areas in their business. But more importantly, they took the time to explain the different types of electrical work done by different companies as well as the different avenues to pursue a Journeyman Certification.
